Story pages

A man in his early seventies with a white beard tending tomato plants in a backyard veggie patch
Meet Ray. He's 72 and gets the full Age Pension.
Three glasses of water on a bench
Under the scheme, his pension plus loan each fortnight can't be more than 150% of the maximum pension rate.
A man in his early seventies with a white beard pouring a little water from a jug into a half-full glass on a kitchen bench
Because Ray already gets the full pension, the loan can top him up by about half as much again.
A woman in her early seventies chatting over a low garden fence with a neighbour
His neighbour Lyn is self-funded and gets no pension. She can take the whole 150% as a loan.
A set of old brass kitchen scales balancing two small piles of river stones
If a pension changes, the loan payment adjusts so the total stays under the cap.
A man in his early seventies with a white beard relaxing in a deck chair in his garden
Ray picks a smaller amount than the maximum. You can choose any amount up to the cap.
