Fees · Brisbane

How much does a financial adviser cost in Brisbane?

With FinForce, initial advice typically starts from about $5,500, depending on your situation and complexity, and ongoing advice is typically 1% a year of the funds we advise on. Every fee is set out in writing before you commit. Here is what those fees cover and the questions to ask any adviser.

Types of fee

What you may be asked to pay for.

  • Initial advice: understanding your position, researching and modelling the options, and preparing your Statement of Advice.
  • Implementation: putting the agreed advice in place, such as applications, rollovers and paperwork. Some advisers charge this separately; ask.
  • Ongoing advice: reviews, updates and support over time, often a fixed fee or a percentage of the funds advised on. You must agree to an ongoing fee arrangement in writing and renew that consent each year, and you can end it.
  • Insurance commission: for life insurance, advisers may be paid by the insurer, within limits set by law. It must be disclosed to you.

What drives the cost

Why fees differ between people.

A single issue (for example a super consolidation) usually costs less than a full plan covering super, investments, insurance, retirement income and a business. Complexity adds time: trusts, companies, SMSFs, property, Centrelink and estate questions all need extra research and modelling. That is why we quote after the first conversation, not before.

Paying for advice

Who can pay, and how.

  • You pay the fee directly, or by agreement for ongoing advice.
  • In some cases advice about your super can be paid from your super fund, if the fund allows it and the advice relates to your interest in that fund.
  • Some ongoing advice fees relating to income-producing investments may be tax deductible. Fees for an initial plan generally are not. Check with your tax adviser and the ATO.

Questions to ask

Before you agree to anything.

  1. What exactly is included, and what costs extra?
  2. Is the fee fixed or a percentage, and how is it calculated?
  3. Do you receive commission or other payments from product providers?
  4. What happens at review time, and how do I stop the ongoing service?
  5. Are you on ASIC’s Financial Advisers Register?

Common questions

How much does a financial adviser cost in Brisbane?

With FinForce, initial advice typically starts from about $5,500, depending on your situation and complexity. Ongoing advice is typically 1% a year of the funds we advise on. Every fee is set out in writing before you commit.

Does the first meeting cost anything?

The first chat is to see if we are the right fit. It is not advice and there is no obligation. If we go ahead, the scope and fees are agreed in writing first.

Do I have to sign up for ongoing advice?

No. Some clients need an ongoing relationship; others need a one-off piece of advice with a future review point. We agree what fits.

Can I pay for advice from my super?

Sometimes. Some super funds allow advice fees about your super interest to be paid from your account. It reduces your balance, so it is worth weighing up.
